The Emerging issues in Society--Culture

Beauties in Different Cultures:

A Taiwanese was examined when he entered US, and the Customs officer found seven underwears in his luggage. When the officer asked him why, he answered “Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday,” which meant one for each day. Then here came a French who brought five underwears. When he was asked the same question, he said “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.” “How about Saturday and Sunday?” the officer asked. “No wear.” The officer understood that French were romantic that they didn’t wear on weekend. After that, an Indian came in with 12 underwears. The officer got confused and asked why, he said slowly “January, February, March, April …” This was just a joke that I saw on the internet few days ago, but it made me think about the small distinguish among countries. A lot of people mentioned “foreign,” “other countries,” “divided” when they talked about culture. With the highly developed economic globalization process, multiculturalism societies grow up against this background. However, culture is so complex that it could be considered either the most different civilization or something that we have in common, no matter how differently it form, respecting and understanding are only way that we can see its uniqueness and beauty.

Even though every country celebrates the New Year in its own traditional ways, they have the same purpose and wish for future, which is praying for the happiness to live in a better life. Culture was rich and varied, and the essential feature is its uniqueness. We share understanding and respecting to each other; therefore, there would be less argument and contradiction in the whole world.
